G30s vs g30sf.
I asked to try the G30SF, the G30S and the Gen4 G30 if they had these models...I was told they had no G30SF (10 round short frame .45), the G30S has been on order but they hadn't gotten any in yet but he did have a G36 (the slim, single stack with the top end that would make a G30 the S version)...

The G30 Gen4 and Gen3 G30S have established a solid record of reliability. Some Gen3 G30SF pistols in early-year production runs exhibited a problem of failure to return to battery (FTRTB). Insufficient clearance between the slide and upper projection of the trigger bar (cam that contacts the firing pin safety) was thought to be one cause of FTRTB.
Good for carry but not shooting. The G30s I did own but sold it. Its lighter than the G30sf and I could tell the difference in the felt recoil. Even the about 3 oz. makes a difference at least for me. I like the G30sf over the G30 that I also sold. The G30sf is probably the best and most accurate Glock that I have owned and I have owned 27 of them.The G30SF, G29SF, and G30S all use the same frame. The Gen 3 G30S does have a different slide stop release, but that's a pretty minor difference. The Gen4 G30 and Gen4 G29 share a frame. The Gen4 G29/30 has the RTF texture and interchangeable back straps. What EVERYONE has ignored in this discussion about using a G30S (or G36) Slide Assembly on any G30 (or G30SF) Frame Assembly is the important issue of the Frame Assembly's Slide Stop Lever. The G30 or G30SF Frame Assembly uses Slide Stop Lever 5423.SSL 5423 does NOT properly engage a thin slide, although it may appear to work OK for a while. The G30S Frame Assembly uses Slide Stop Lever 30793.

The standard width for the subs and compacts is 1.18" wide. So, if the the G30s is 1.10" or even 1.18" wide for all that matter, and has a better grip fron to back (G30SF vs. original G30) and excepts my original G30/G21 mags, then my next Glock is the G30s. A call to Glock tomorrow will clarify this 100%.

The difference in the grip size between the SF and the Gen 4 (without any back straps installed)is insignificant (read as virtually the same), the only real difference is the grip texture. The standard Glock 30 has a grip that is larger, front to back. The best defense is a good offense, and I'm really offensive.
